Some aid for English reading tatters

This started as a site for tatting. Then I needed space for dragons (drager), then knitting, nalbinding, sprang and hopefully one day: bobbin lace, all listed under Andre teknikker - other techniques.

Under the heading Mønstre you find the patterns. These are mostly transcribed from an old magazine and a few are either reconstructed from a photo or a sample, and one is my original pattern. When the source is known, it is found as Kilde and then the name and volume of the magazine. When the source is unknown it is Kilde ukjent. This happens when the pattern is cut out of a magazine before I received it, from either one of my grandmothers or others.

The choices under Mønstre are

Key for the Norwegian patterns

As there are a lot of tatting in English on the internet, I will not translate these patterns to English. Experienced tatters should be able to follow the patterns from the key below, using the photos to decide where to connect picots.

Please note the opposite use of L and S for small (Liten) and large (Stor)

R = ring
LR = Small ring
SR =  Large ring.
B = chain
Numbers = the number of double stitches
- = picot
+ = picot connected to another picot
3x6 = 3-3-3-3-3-3
. = close the ring or finish the chain
p = picot
p-en = the picot

SplR = split ring
SplR: 3-3-3/3. = 3-3-3 using the primary shuttle, 3 using the secondary shuttle
SplR: 3-3/3(R: 3-3-3-3)3 = a 3-3-3-3 ring floating on a splitring

ESplR: = Single shuttle split ring

SplB = Split chain
SplB: 3-3/3-3. = 3-3 as an ordinary chain, 3-3 completing the split chain.

Small italic most often letters denotes the start of a repeat. A repeat is marked as gjenta fra a 5 ganger til, i.e repeat from the letter a 5 more times. Please refer to the photo for the total number of repeats as it for some patterns are "repeat until you have 8 rings" or similar. Sometimes the italic letter denote the end of a last repeat.

Please refer to the photos for clarity.
